Open Road 4Two
Red Rock Country - Sedona, AZ Part II
With the increased popularity with overlanding, we have had the hardest time finding a rooftop tent (RTT) for our Tacoma. In addition, purchasing a new bed rack had a minimum four week lead time. Since we are new to overlanding and to keep our build costs down we decided to try Craigs List. We were successful in finding a seller who was changing out his Tacoma bed rack and we found a RTT wholesaler. Our RTT was super easy to pop open and set up camp. It is a 2-3 person tent that accommodated us both comfortably and still allowed sufficient room for some gear. Our only complaint is that the sleeping pad that came with the tent is fairly thin. However, we plan to purchase a memory foam topper to make it more comfortable for sleeping.

After packing up camp, we were ready to begin our day's adventures. We were lucky enough to score 1 of the 12 motorized permits for Soldier's Pass 4x4 trail. Permits are available year-round, with one vehicle per permit. The trail is one mile of unpaved, rough road providing motorized access to natural features such as the Devil's Kitchen sinkhole and Seven Sacred Pools. On this trip, we decided to just focus on the trail and not stop at the sites.

After conquering the trail, we were feeling motivated to hike Devil's Bridge! Devils Bridge is the largest natural sandstone arch located in the Sedona area of the Coconino National Forest. It is a very popular heavily trafficked out and back hike that offers breathtaking views of Red Rock country. This hike was a bit challenging for us in some spots; however, it does allow plenty of rest stops and water breaks with shade along the way. Also, dogs are allowed on trail as long as they are leashed.
Note, that once at the top there can be a short line for walking across the arch to get that instagram worthy shot. Everyone waiting was cordial and it didn't take too long. Plus, look at that view, so worth it!

We have fallen in love with Sedona! Two days was not enough time to explore all the wonders this magical place offers. We highly recommend adding Sedona to your list of places to visit because it is an absolute explorer's dream.
