Open Road 4Two
You Are Too Old For This
You might be surprised by the title, but this statement is something we get quite often. However, you may also be surprised that in the world of overlanding, adventurers, explorers, and seekers there is a tribe of men and women who are over the age of 45. You may know a few influencers, but the main reason is many of these inspiring people do not have a YouTube channel, Instagram, or social medial platform. They have been seeking the unknown, exploring old routes and trails, before it was something that "everyone" did or cared to share on a public platform.

We think that there is an underrepresented demographic in the "overlanding" community. It mainly seems to be dominated by 20 something males who are young, attractive, and fit. Yet, through our travels and adventures, we are many who are "seasoned" in our life experiences. Take us for instance, we are a husband and wife team in our late 40's who started sharing our exploration back in 2020 during the COVID pandemic. We have been fortunate that in our endeavors we have inspired others to hit the Open Road and seek their own adventures, which is what we sought to accomplish. Some of the people we have connected with on our journey have become some of our dearest friends with whom we travel with frequently. They too are married couples in their mid 40's and early 50's.

Whatever your age, the one thing that we all share collectively is the love for the outdoors, discovering new places, and seeing the unseen. Vehicle-based adventure travel is a passion and does not have an age expiration date. Although we are older than the typical overlander, our desire for adventure does not wavier. We believe that the constant pursuit of new experiences keeps us thriving. People are not meant to be stagnant and there is a whole world to explore and discover.
Randy and I have been married for 18+ years and adventuring together has also enriched our marriage. When you are out in the middle of nowhere in a new place you get to share some amazing experiences. Enjoying a sunset together on the cliff of a canyon, sitting at camp with a cup of coffee just listening to the wind through the trees. These are small moments that can be overlooked or taken for granted in the hustle and bustle of daily life. There is also a lot of trust and communication that goes into exploring. Trusting your partner to spot you through a rough obstacle, communicating how to navigate an obstacle, and working together to set up camp, we each have a role and we share the load and responsibilities. We document our adventures and share them on YouTube and Instagram. It is our living diary, our own "Up Adventure Book," something that our grandchildren and great grandchildren will one day see and maybe inspire them to seek their adventures.
So back to that statement, "You are too old for this" it is just that a statement open to interpertation. What one person deems as too old, we define as, keeps us young. For all the seasoned overlanders, adventurers, seekers, and explorers out there, keep trail blazing and living each adventure to the fullest. We hope to share the trail or an adventure with you, see you on the Open Road.
